Homes Are For People
Single-family homes should be places to live, not corporate investments. When large companies buy up homes across the country, prices rise and families get pushed out
- Prohibit publicly traded companies, large private equity firms, REITs, and corporate landlords above a set size from buying or holding single-family homes
- Create clear language around single-family home definitions, close loopholes and block shell companies used to get around the rules.
- Create a national registry of beneficial ownership for residential property, require disclosure at purchase, and levy meaningful fines/tax penalties for violations, bulk-buying evasions, or leaving homes vacant.
